While your video production process will vary based on the style, content, timeline, effort, and budget, there are some basic building blocks that are constant in all of our projects. These include:

  • Pre-Production. This begins as soon as we have our first meeting. We’ll come up with a plan specific to your needs and talk about coordination, i.e. how to get your photos, videos, etc., and how you can get acccess to our videos or final product.
  • Production. This will start as soon as we’ve gathered everything we need for your project.
  • Post-Production. This is where all of the elements of your project get edited and combined to create your final video.

Step One: Pre-Production

The first step in the process of creating a video is all about preparation and setting the groundwork. During this step, we will plan, research, figure out a best approach, and get organized.

The pre-production phase includes:

  • Video strategy/goals
  • Budget/scope
  • Story selection
  • Project timeline

We will try to figure this out on our first free consultation, but it may take more than one meeting which is OK with us.  The number of meetings will vary based on the scope of your project.

Basically, we want to discuss the purpose, strategy, and goals for your video and how it will be used after it is finalized. If your video is for commercial purposes, we will talk about things like branding, target audience, and the tone and feel for the piece.

All your communication will be done through a single dedicated video producer for your project. He or she will be your only point of contact for your project.  If your project requires a videographer and script, the producer will visit the site (if locally) and it will make sure that you have reviewed and approved the script.

Step Two: Production

Our favorite part! This is when your story starts to get wings. In this step we will be collecting all of your video footage, phototograhs, b-roll (extra footage used to enhance your video/story). If your project requires videographer services, voice-overs, we will be doing all of that in this step.

Step Three: Post-Production

Now that we have collected all of the media, the editor will start working on your project. The editor will start organizing the materials in a way that reflects the goal of your video. For example, if we are doing a family video of a person, the starting point is usually the person as a child and it progresses through their lives into adulthood, etc. We will also add the music to your video. You can provide us with the music or we can provide it for you. Next, you will review the video and once approved we will deliver the video for you. We can deliver via YouTube or shared folder.

Post-Producction will take longer than the other two steps put together. Producing a video that will match your goals is a time consuming process requiring constant edits, your approvals, revisions, and final delivery. Depending on the video, it may take two to three weeks.
